Billboard R&B Chart

EVERY WEEK I used to buy the American music business magazine Billboard 

to find out about the latest soul and R&B records on release in the USA.

I had it on permanent order at a newsagents in King Street. It was hideously expensive

because it was flown in by airmail from New York so that the charts were still current. My

favourite charts were the Hot 100 and the R&B Chart. At a guess it cost five shillings a week

 in 1965 - these days it's way over a fiver a week but it's lost its interest for me now. But back

 in the middle sixties it was my favourite magazine and (for me) worth going without lunch to

 be able to afford it!
