R&B Club Mobile Disco

The R&B Club Mobile Disco was available for hire for private parties such as 21st Birthdays, and we carried out many bookings at venues such as

The Four Mile

The Blue Lamp

We got lots of bookings, often two or three a week. Perhaps that's why I didn't get a better degree!

The first booking ever, was for a local lad known as Dutch.

Dutch's 21st birthday party was held upstairs at the Blue Lamp. It started at 10pm when the downstairs bar closed. The

fee was one guinea, in other words 21 shillings.

Do you remember Dutch?

He worked at Aberdeen Photographic opposite Telemech

We placed an advert in the paper as well

OTHER DISCOS IN ABERDEEN

Can you remember any other discos in Aberdeen at the time?

The R&B Club Disco was the first mobile disco in Aberdeen if I remember correctly.

I certainly like to think the R&B Club started the trend, followed by

Paul Harris

Mac

Roy Lesley and Phil

AFTER UNIVERSITY

After leaving Aberdeen I started working at the Independent Television Authority in Knightsbridge,

which later became The Independent Broadcasting Authority.

I spent my spare time building a new set of disco equipment.

My disco was based in Thornton Heath in Surrey and was known as the

Doctor Sureshot disco

the name coming from

Dandy's big Jamaican 45 'Doctor Sureshot' on the Downtown label.
